Keeping my handpicked collections of handmade products current is an on-going project.  Handmade products are often one-of-a-kind or are produced in very limited quantities, so collection items sell out and need to be purged.  That was the case with the handmade Buddha collection, but it’s freshened up and spiffy now, with lots of new Buddha sculpures for home and garden.  Whether hanging on a wall, resting on a tabletop, or nestled in a quiet garden spot, Buddha statues lend a sense of calm serenity. And this handpicked collection of handmade Buddhas offers a diverse choice of sizes and styles. Some are designed to be used outdoors, but will work just as well well in the home or office. Some are strictly for indoor use.

Many of these statues depict the Buddha’s hands arranged in a symbolic gesture or mudra. For example, the Standing Buddha above depicts Buddha standing with hand extended in a mudra meaning “no fear,” while the Seated Buddha below is in the lotus position of spiritual wisdom with his right arm extended in the earth-touching position. This is a sacred gesture of steadfast determination.

It is said that the Weeping Buddha takes away the grief and troubles of the world, and bestows peace and strength on those who rub his back.

My favorites are Happy Buddhas (also called Laughing Buddha and Smiling Buddha) and have several in my house.  These are not really depictions of the Buddha. They depict a bodhisattva, a wise and enlightened being that strives for Buddhahood. Happy Buddhas represent good fortune, joy, abundance, and contentment. It is also said that rubbing his head or belly brings good fortune.
