These pretty handbags designed by Sandra Barahona are handmade by skilled artisans in her workshop in El Salvador. The bags are constructed of jute, a strong plant fiber highly regarded as sustainable and eco-friendly. They also make beautiful use of recycled inner tube rubber and faux leather trim. The bags are a roomy 12 inces high by 14 inches wide b 4-1/2 inches deep, are cotton-lined and have three pockets, one with a zipper closure.
This jute handbag with red trim, Salvador Nature in Red, is my favorite. It has an elegant modern feel, and the red trim gives it an earthy ethnic vibe.
This version, Salvador Nature in Black, is also very nice. It has a timeless quality that is both modern and ancient all at once.
These bags are available at Novica, a Fair Trade organization dedicated to helping global artisans make a success of their craft by building sustainable businesses. You can see more of my handpicked Novica products here.
